My family and friends had begun to joke about me and, to be fair, it was a little funny. Even I started talking about the way I could simply drop off to sleep anywhere and anytime. I began to refer to these times as “screen-saver mode” and the only difference between me and my laptop was the fact that at least I could set my laptop not to go into screen-saver.
This condition wasn’t so funny if it was 8.30am and I was driving on the M25. It was even less sociable when I could hardly keep my eyes open after Sunday lunch and while in the company of visitors. I never questioned this phenomenon, it was simply how I was wired and anyhow, no harm done. Then one day, sometime in December 2011, I realised that time was valuable, which is a whole other story. The short version is that I had so many goals I still wanted to achieve, I was 52 and according the The Office of National Statistics, if I was Joe Average living in the UK in 2012, I could expect to live until I was 75-80 years old.
Where there is not urgency there is no action and in my case the thought of only possibly having twenty five Christmas puddings left was like a cold shower after a warm bed. I was running out of time and when I quickly checked my personal control panel I was horrified to find.....no pause button, only play> and stop* and I wasn’t about to hit stop.
The Goal Mapping guru, Brian Mayne once taught me a valuable lesson which was how to “involve to evolve” and suddenly I was reaching for the phone. I suppose I could have called the Samaritans for help but I wasn’t suicidal, only desperate to effect a change in my life. I needed help in my evolution from sloth to super man. I had a conversation with Shay Faulkner at Elevate Fitness http://www.themobiletrainer.co.uk/about my energy levels and asked about a stratergy to set a course for a life-style change.
That and subsequent conversations and advice have transformed my life. Shay recommended changes which I have applied and, without exaggeration, the transformation has been phenomenal. In fact the transformation has been so welcome and life changing, I have partnered with Shay and Elevate Fitness to develop a workshop guaranteed to deliver results. If it worked for me it’s going to work for anyone or your money back..."steady" I hear you shout, but it's true.
My current results and status:
1. Massive improvement in energy levels
2. Weight loss (which was not a primary goal)
3. Stopped all medication for blood pressure and cholesterol (awaiting blood test) and now have a 117/78 BP
4. No more “screen-saver” moments resulting in more time to pursue my dreams and goals.
I am convinced that one of the primary reasons why well meaning and committed people fail to reach their goals and objectives has more to do with their personal health and energy levels than with personal vision or motivation. I am not finished with this topic yet and I know many other who aren’t either.
I am suggesting that alongside a clear stragergy for achieving your goals you will need a body and mind capable of delivering the changes and results required to satisfy your definition of success.
Join Shay and I and many others who simply don't want to wake up at the end of their lives and wonder "where did time go?"
